Since good choreography is the focus of the event, Lavoie has included companies of many different styles. Dances will include tap, ballet, theater dance and modern/contemporary. Lavoie said the event is unique because "there is such a wide array of work."
"This really shows the high level of talent and quality of work here in New Hampshire," Lavoie said.
NH Choreographer's Showcase puts the spotlight on the dance creators
Lavoie said the range of companies in the showcase speaks to the art itself and the direction it's going in.
"This year's showcase has grown so much, we've expanded to two completely separate performances," she said. "In addition to the works presented by local companies, we also have pieces submitted by independent artists Kristina Griffin and Heather Budinscak."
The other dance companies at the showcase will be Ballet Misha of Manchester, City Center Ballet of Lebanon, dSundanceX of Windham, FreeFall Contemporary Dance Company of Bedford, Peterborough Dance Theatre of Peterborough, Saving Grace Dance Ensemble of Milford and Northern Ballet Theatre Youth Beats In Ear
Ensemble of Nashua.
"I think it speaks for itself when you see the eclectic range of works," she said.
What started as a small idea of showcasing local choreographers has now grown into an event featuring eight dance companies from around the state. The main focus of the third annual New Hampshire Choreographer's Showcase isn't the 80 people who perform the routines it's the 18 people who create them. Saturday at Pinkerton Academy's Stockbridge Theatre in Derry, and will feature 23 original works.
The Southern NH Dance Youth Ballet will perform six pieces by a few different choreographers, including Douglas Davis, Robyn Goulette, Ashley Walton, Bafana Matea and Lavoie herself. After all, the choreographers are the main focus of the showcase.
NBTYE will be performing four routines which are choreographed by Cassidy and two other faculty members. With dancers ranging in age from 12 to 22, this is the company's second year participating in the event.
"I think the (event) really showcases how much dance has grown in New Hampshire," she said.
"It's nice for our dancers to participate because they get to see different Eclipse Ghd
styles," she said.
Tina Cassidy, the artistic director of Northern Ballet Theatre Youth Ensemble, said she is excited to have her Nashua based company see what dancers from around the state are doing.
The showcase is presented by the Southern NH Dance Theater's Youth Ballet, of which Lavoie is the artistic director. The company will feature 29 girls in the showcase, ranging from 13 18. Lavoie said they have been preparing for several months and that she began looking for choreographers a year ago.

Lavoie said many dance companies expressed interest in being in the showcase. There will be two performance times so that each company will have sufficient time to perform.
"Good choreography can make a world of difference," Lavoie said.
